This Creepy Thriller
The director's contained scarefest holds up well despite the lack of a follow-up. Located in 1970s Colorado, multiple disappearances has rendered the children on edge. After Finney gets captured by “the Grabber” and held captive in a dungeon, he fears a fatal end. But the disconnected phone mounted nearby continues to ring, with eerie communicators offering help, as the intuitive nightmares of Gwen, his sister could save him. An effective horror. Saturday 11 October, late evening, on Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for materialism in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky biopic about the fallen religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. The actor acts as the greedy Jim, who proclaims initially, claiming divine approval for wealth. The couple commence monetising the nation's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of bad interior design, bad makeup and bad faith, yet Jessica Chastain succeeds to show the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, Film4
